My name is Val. My husband and I have lived at Waihi beach for 18 years and we have two adult children who are now leading their own lives.
I have worked as a teacher aide with special needs children at the local primary school for six years. I also assisted teachers with other children in the classroom. I then spent the next seven years working in day care centres running an under two’s area for three of those years.
I have now decided to concentrate on working with smaller groups of children. JeMMa’s has given me the opportunity to do this in my own home where each child has the opportunity to have one-to-one time with me. I have a well resourced home with lots of toys and equipment for children’s learning.
Living at the beach, the children have the opportunity to go down and explore it in the warmer months finding little treasures in the sand, collecting natural resources for our art work, swimming in the warm water pools, digging and climbing with each visit a new adventure.
We go to Mainly Music each week and we visit playcentre and the library on a regular basis. The children enjoy helping to choose books. We also go for walks to the local park and swings to play, visit local shops to post mail and buy grocery items to use for our baking sessions.
Children absorb and learn so much in the first five years and it is a pleasure for me to be a part of this journey with them.
