As an Educarer of mixed cultures I strongly believe in the importance of knowing who you are and where you are from. Language and culture make up a huge part of my day to day activities and I just love seeing my children in care thoroughly enjoying their play and learning within the bi-lingual environment I offer.
 
I know this sounds cliché, but our days are filled with fun and laughter! As reinforced when I was a co-ordinator for a Bi-lingual play-group in Auckland I instil in my approach to care the similar values and principles as embedded in a marae setting such as Wairuatanga, Whanaungatanga, Manaakitanga, Aroha and Maoritanga.
 
Wairuatanga: I value spirituality as an integral part of everyday life and use karakia in our daily routines to nourish spiritual growth at kai time, opening & ending our time together.
Whanaungatanga: I am committed to nurturing and developing each child as if he/she is my own. I value making connections with the families and am open and sharing of my culture with all.

Manaakitanga: I value the mana of each child & will share my knowledge & sustenance in a caring way by helping families feel respected and hopes for their child honoured.
Aroha: This is an extension to manaakitanga, aroha is the concept of love. The learning environment I offer will be one of praise, encouragement, gentle firmness, guidance and of course love.
Maoritanga: I absolutely value Te Reo Maori and whilst not fluent myself, I pride myself on facilitating activities that support cultural education for us all.
 
I strongly believe in, and am passionate about these values. I make sure that each tamaiti feels welcomed, comfortable, loved, respected, supported and uplifted by offering a stimulating whanau & homely environment. I am committed to resourcing and implementing Maori language and culture at every opportunity of which there is an abundance of it.
 
Play and make-believe play makes up a huge part of my day. You will often find me joining in at tea parties, cooking, playing doctors, playing shops, playing dress-ups and more with the tamariki. There is so much learning occurring through all of these activities and communicating through various languages is encouraged.

When we are not playing we are singing and dancing. I make sure we have a singing session every day. Whether it is our waiata we sing before our karakia mo te kai, a wa whariki (a mat time) where we sing songs as a group or me just generally singing our waiata while we are playing hoping that they join in with me and sing along.
Whilst I have only recently moved to Tauranga, and am yet to get out and about to mix with other play-groups and child friendly organisations. I feel I offer enough stimulation for my babies within the comfort of my own home.

I am very fortunate to have access to my parent’s farm in Whakamarama – Tauranga, of which we visit on our farm day which is Friday, to feed puddles the kunekune poaka, the many heihei and hoiho too.

As you can see, I am enthusiastic, hands on and very active in my approach when it comes to caring for tamariki. If you think you can see your tamaiti enjoying a day or more with me, I would love to have the opportunity to meet with you and share more about myself and my whanau, what it is we do, and what it is you would like for your tamaiti.

Our Educarers are recruited using a very strong selection process


We take the safety of your child very seriously.  Each and every one of our Educarers is thoroughly checked using our recruitment vetting system.  Part of this system requires all Educarers to have a squeaky clean police record and a full medical assessment.
Further to this, Co-ordinators (who are all fully qualified and registered early childhood teachers) complete a full assessment of every property to ensure that it meets Ministry of Education safety requirements.
